Duplicating a Database

This section describes how to duplicate an existing Database.

You can duplicate a Database to work faster. For example, if you would like to create a new reporting Database at the start of a new fiscal year, you can duplicate the previous year’s Database. Instead of designing the same Forms from scratch for a new Database you can simply duplicate the Database that includes the Forms and records.

Users and permissions are not duplicated when duplicating a database. You will have to invite users into the duplicated database.

To duplicate a database, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the Database Settings page of the Database that you wish to duplicate.
  • Make sure that you have selected the whole Database by clicking on "This database".
  • On the side panel, click on "Duplicate database" to duplicate it.
  • When duplicating a Database, a dialog box will appear asking how you'd like to duplicate the database and what you wish to duplicate.

  • In selecting how you wish to duplicate the database, you can choose:

  • Schema only (this will duplicate only the database structure) OR

  • Schema + data (this will duplicate the database structure and records added)

  • In selecting what you wish to duplicate the database, you can choose:

  • All forms and folders (this will duplicate all forms and folders in the database) OR

  • A selection of forms and folders (this allows you to select specific forms and folders to duplicate)

  • Give a name to the new Database that will be based on this duplicate.

  • Click on "Duplicate” and the the new Database has been added as a duplicate of the initial Database and you can find it in the Databases list page.

  • The duplication action will be recorded in the audit log for future reference.

By following these steps, you should be able to successfully duplicate a database in ActivityInfo.
